Dental Hygienist Valerie Lundy Joins Sullivan County LHC
By Kristy Warren
Dental hygienist Valerie Lundy, RDH, PHDHP, has joined the Sullivan County Laurel Health Center, located at 217 King St. in Laporte, PA, to provide comprehensive dental services. She is accepting new patients of all ages.
Valerie pursued a dental career after watching her mother deliver compassionate care as a dental hygienist. “When I was four years old, my mother decided to go back to school and enrolled in a dental hygiene program,” she shares. “My mother attended classes while I was in preschool, and when my preschool program was not available, I actually sat in on her classes, becoming familiar with her office and services at a very young age.”
As a registered public health dental hygienist practitioner (RDH, PHDHP), Valerie has completed additional training certifications allowing her to provide more services independently, such as cleanings, x-rays, and sealants.
She has a broad background in providing dental hygiene, including:
- Imaging (e.g., bitewings and panoramic x-rays)
- Routine cleanings
- Prophylaxis and periodontal treatments
- Oral cancer screenings
- Patient education to support oral wellness in between visits

Valerie is especially passionate about oral cancer screenings and preventive dental care.
“Having worked with an oral surgeon at a dental surgery and implant center, I saw more oral cancer patients than most dentists see in their entire career. It has left me with a unique passion for preventing and diagnosing oral cancer early, explaining treatment options, and providing emotional support,” she explains. “The most rewarding part of my job is helping patients improve their dental health and achieve their goal of being able to smile again.”
Valerie received her Associate of Applied Science degree in Dental Hygiene from the Pennsylvania College of Technology. Prior to joining Laurel Health, she worked with private dental practices and dental surgery centers throughout Lycoming County, PA.
In her free time, she enjoys hiking, biking, kayaking, and traveling. Last year, she hiked the Black Forest trail with her 15-year-old daughter, camping along the way and completing an impressive 43-mile hike in just three days.
