Laurel Health Adds Speech-Language Pathology Services

By Kristy Warren

Laurel Health now offers comprehensive speech-language pathology services to help patients with communication and swallowing issues. Speech-language pathology covers a broad spectrum of therapies that assist patients with fluency, language, speech, cognitive memory, swallowing, vocalization, and communication.

Trevor Solis, Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP), sees patients at the Mansfield Laurel Health Center, located at 416 South Main St. in Mansfield, PA. Trevor provides preventive treatments, assessments to diagnose issues, interventional care, and comprehensive therapy for a wide variety of conditions.

His own positive experience with speech-language pathology led Solis to pursue a career in this field. “As a person who stutters, speech therapy helped me develop modifying techniques to maximize my communication skills and shape my language fluency,” he shares.

Speech-language pathology is designed to help patients improve their communication and quality of life. Common speech-language pathology services include:

  • Assessment and diagnosis of speech, cognition, or swallowing issues
  • Techniques for fluency challenges like stuttering or speech difficulties
  • Treatment for dysphagia (difficulty swallowing) and feeding concerns
  • Care that addresses auditory processing, attention, or memory issues
  • Help with articulation, vocalization, speech production, and phonology

He received his Bachelor of Arts and Master of Arts in Communicative Science and Disorders from West Chester University in West Chester, PA. Trevor has experience in skilled nursing, scholastic, and outpatient care settings. His background includes providing speech-language services to address communication issues and clinical services focused on assisting patients with vocal, cognitive, and physical needs, such as treating dysphagia (difficulty swallowing) to prevent aspiration problems.

“What I most enjoy about speech-language pathology is helping others develop the skills and techniques they need to be effective and confident communicators,” he adds. “I chose Laurel Health to provide these services because of its commitment to providing excellent, individualized patient care in rural settings.”

In his free time, he enjoys hiking, camping, running, gardening, live music, travel, and spending time with his two cats, Rascal and Tony.
